one of the symbols of Rio de Janeiro at the end of the year, was inaugurated on Saturday night (5).

The traditional Christmas tree, which since 1996 graces the Lagoon, has 150 wreaths and nearly 3 million micro bulbs in this year.

According to organizers, it is 85 meters high, equivalent to a building of 28 floors. Also, the tree entered the Guinness Book as the largest floating Christmas tree in the world.

The theme of the 14th edition of the Christmas tree is "The union of our best wishes. " The event was hosted by actor Joseph Mayer. The athlete Barbara Leoncio also attended the opening.

The Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Bradesco Foundation touched the audience, who could be housed as rain. The highlight of the festival was the presentation of the singer Simone, who took the stage twice and thrilled audiences with their successes.

Environment

Due to concerns about preserving the environment, this year the Christmas tree back to rely on generators powered by biodiesel, which contributes to reducing CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. To optimize the use of fuel, is also used a computerized telemetry system to power generators as required lighting schedule.

Organizers said six generators will ensure the brilliance of the show. The generation of energy produced within 30 days would be enough to supply a city of about 300,000 people for five days.

The Christmas Tree, sponsored by Bradesco, the day is on display until January 6, Epiphany.
