Carlos Gomes Theater
First was the establishment in a luxury hotel, until in 1872 the owner decided to turn it into a playhouse. The place became known as Casino Theatre Franco-brésilien.
In 1880, the theater changed hands, and with that his name was also changed, Sant'Anna Theatre renamed in honor of the wife of the new owner.
The only drama came to receive its current name in 1904 when the then owner died and the property was purchased by Pascoal Segreto. Since then, the theater began to gain fame and the greatest artists of the time spent by its stage, but occurred only plays, were not yet presented concerts of music, what began to happen in the 70s.
The trajectory of the theater was not only composed of joys, there were already two fires that almost led to the ruins one of the best opera houses in Rio de Janeiro. The first occurred in 1929, only reopening in 1932, and the second came in 1950. With each fire, the building has been gaining further reforms and that its architecture has been following the trends of the year.
Today it is undeniable that talk Teatro Carlos Gomes is of great importance to Brazilian culture with its 120 years of existence!
