Casa do Grito
The Museum of the City of São Paulo is organized through a network of twelve historic buildings and areas administered by the Department of Historic (DPH).
Created in 1993, its conceptualization and implementation have been made gradually over successive governments. The conceptual and administrative core of the network lies in the combination of the Solar da Marquesa de Santos, Pinto Alley (Beco do Pinto) and House Number 1, the future headquarters of Sao Paulo Picture House. The following spaces also belong to the historical museum: House of the Bandeirante, the frontiersman House, Chapel of Morumbi, site Morrinhos, House of Tatuapé, site of Ressaca, the Independence Monument, Casa do Grito, and in 2008, the Modernist House of Santa Cruz Street was added to the Museum.
The Museum of the City of São Paulo has five distinct collections. Held at headquarters Solar da Marquesa de Santos, the collections from 2004 were organized through a database with support from the Vitae Foundation. Its content is often used in various exhibitions held in museums units.
Over 600 000 images depicting mostly the city of Sao Paulo and its urban transformation in the last 145 years. The movable collection is composed of about 800 pieces of furniture, household items, tools and oratories whose origin is linked to the activities to commemorate the fourth centenary of the city. Ethnographic Acquis represents the cultural heritage of some indigenous ethnic groups in the country. Its Archaeological collections consist of artifacts and traces on the urban daily life of the city of Sao Paulo of the preceding centuries. The Collection of Oral History brings together more than 500 original tapes in order to preserve the memory of São Paulo with recordings of "memory workshop" and interviews.
