Opened in April 21, 2001, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Sâo Paulo celebrates the success to have achieved its goal: to inject a greater vitality in the scene in São Paulo.

The CCBB São Paulo was built in 1901 at  Alvares Penteado Street  corner with Quitanda Street. Located in the historic heart of the city which is currently a path of pedestrians, the building was purchased  in 1923 by the Bank of Brazil. In 1927, after a renovation designed by architect Hippolyte Pujol, it became the first facility of Bank of Brazil in the capital. The building was completely refurbished to house the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil.

The original elements were restored, keeping the lines that make it one of the most significant examples of architecture from the beginning of the century. The five-story building (plus basement and mezzanine) was listed by the Archaeological and Touristic Heritage Defense Council  of São Paulo and by the Municipal Council of Historic , Cultural and Environmental  of the São Paulo City.

With 4183 square meters, the CCBB São Paulo has exhibition halls, cinema, theater, auditorium, gift shop and cafeteria. Today, more than a million people circulate daily through the region of CCBB which offers programming in areas such as music, visual arts, cinema, literature, dance, theater and educational.

The CCBB Sao Paulo is in an area easily accessible. In addition to several bus lines that pass near the site, the building is close to stations and St. Benedict's Cathedral Subway.
