Independence Park

Independence Park is a National Historic Landmark, the Ipiranga Hill, near the Ipiranga Creek, Dom Pedro I declared the country independent of Portugal, ending the period of colonial Brazil. In your area are located at the Independence Monument, the Paulista Museum (better known as the Ipiranga Museum), the gardens of classic lines, the House of the woods and cry. In addition to landmark the entire museum and its gardens is also a form of reference guiding the urbanization of the Ipiranga neighborhood, as evidenced by the route of the road system and the influence of their gardens in the pattern of occupation of the surrounding blocks. The park is listed by the resolution of CONDEPHAAT 02/04/75, SET Case No. 8.486/79, and the CONPRESP - Resolution No. 05/91 tumbling "ex officio" and its use is regulated by Decree No. 25,871 of 6 / 05 / 88. On 03/10/86 the State Government passed the administration of the areas that make up the park (except for the Museu Paulista) to the Municipality of São Paulo.

Area

Independence Park has a total area of ​​184,830 m2, of: 51,960 m2 of impermeable floors, 124,500 m2 of vegetation: forest (32,200 m2), Gramado (67,900 m2); grassy area (24,400 m2)., 4,500 m2 of stream and source and 3,870 m2 of buildings.

Flora

The "French garden", located just in front of the Museum, are characterized by topárias of boxwood and azaleas that enclose beds of roses, and palm and cypress trees. Behind the museum is a dense forest where the former Garden of Ipiranga, part of botanical research in the Museum, which later led to the Institute of Botany, in deep water. In the woods are native species like guapuruvu, ironwood, sapucaia, cedar and fig trees and araribá, among others, and fruit trees.

Fauna

The presence of fruit trees in the park provide food and shelter for local birds, among which stand out parrot-green, bem-te-vi, thrush, tanager, sparrow, sparrow, owl-eared, Cambaceres, dove, Anu and-white wren. There is also the presence of possums and monkeys-tufted white (introduced).
