Wine is regularly had with dinner, and there are numerous really excellent wines is southern Brazil where the climate is superior for growing the necessary grapes. All of the wines you will taste, will be local or South American varieties. This is largely due to import costs. It is doubtful you will find any wines from other nations.

While Brazil has a significant number of vineyards, a sizeable number of them produce table grapes, and only a few grow them for Brazilian wine.

As much of Brazil is near to the equator, classical rules of thumb brand most of the area unsuitable for viticulture, due to heat and humidity. Much of the grape growing of Brazil is focused in the south part of the country, far away from the equator, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is near to Uruguay and Argentina. In that part of the country, many of the vineyards are also located in cooler areas of the mountains, mainly in the Serra Gaúcha area.
