Guarapiranga Ecological Park

The Secretariat of Environment of the State - SMA opened in April 1999, the Ecological Park Guarapiranga to promote the preservation and protection of fauna and flora in the vicinity of the dam that has the same name, and provide cultural oriented activities, environmental and recreational visitors, especially to local residents. With 250.30 hectares, 7% of 28 km in the vicinity of the Guarapiranga reservoir, forming a protection against invasions and illegal occupations.

Since the project, the park is entirely designed to cause minimal damage to the environment. A walkway that provides access to its main buildings, with 500 meters long, is wholly suspended, to avoid impact on the ground, the windows of the buildings are large, to privilege the use of sunlight, and even the curtains are made of recycled paper.

In fact, this kind of creation can be learned in one of the many workshops offered weekly and free. One teaches to transform recyclable material, the cardboard "pet" of soda in crafts such as artificial potted plants, "origami" frame.

Toy of the Infocenter, the Trash Museum's Environmental Education Program and the Amphitheatre to the Oval Office, the Guarapiranga Ecological Park offers visitors many activities in the midst of native vegetation replanted and remnants of Atlantic rainforest.
