This type of restaurant offers the traditional Brazilian barbecue - churrasco, which comprises of whole cuts of meat that are skewed and barbecued in a “churrasqueira” constructed of bricks. The meat is cooked and then served at the table, in a service called a rodízio.
Passadores (meat waiters) wander around the restaurant, each person carrying a specific type of meat. They arrive at your table with a knife and a skewer and each person can then either elect to take a slice of the meat or pass. For the inexperienced it can become quite an staggering experience as skewer upon skewer is provided to the table.
Numerous kinds of meat are brought around, usually various cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, duck, seafood, sausage, or any other local types of meats. Be sure to try out the barbecued pineapple with cinnamon and sugar!
