ELF Gallery
On December 11, 1981 opened the gallery in the alley ELF January 9, number 2082 in the absence of a conventional space to support the artistic actions in Bethlehem The gallery was the result of a project developed in 1980 and was the first in state of Pará, designed for this purpose. The space looked workshop presses for metal engraving, exhibition space, office, technical reserve area, kitchen and toilet.
The opening of the gallery happened to a mega exhibition of prints. Names such as Volpi, Livio Abramo, Maria Bonomi, Renin Katz, Romildo Paiva, Sarubbi, Hellenes, Fayga, Claudio Tozzi, Ubirajara Ribeiro Aldemir Martins were part of the first exposure. During seven years the gallery was a unique space to promote the visual arts, venue of the so-called Generation 80 (Para artists) and scenario shows established artists in Sao Paulo, as Ubirajara Ribeiro, Decio Soncini, Jair Glass , Inacio Rodrigues and Claudio Tozzi. The gallery also paved the way for launching new talents. It was in Elf Alex Cerveny (SP), Santos and Marinaldo Margalho (PA) debuted in the art world.
In 1988 it was necessary to change and the site chosen for the new facility was the Generalissimo Deodoro Avenue, number 506, which reopened in August 1989 after completion of the reform in the house purchased to house the gallery. In new era, in a larger space and without any sponsorship of a person or entity, we present to the public Para artists like Antonio Vitor da Silva, Decio Soncini, Charbel, Francisco Gonzalez, Jair Glass Trimani Luis Gilberto Salvador, Rubens Gerchman, Caciporé Torres Vasco Prado, Aldemir Martins, Luiz Hermano Roberto Uehara, Romildo Paiva, Claudio Tozzi, Darel, Fernando Odriozola, City Roberto, Ricardo Aprígio, Brennand, Gil Vicente, Liliane Dardot, Mary Tomaselli, among others. The acquisition policy of the gallery was the result of negotiations and purchases directly with artists or outside of Bethlehem, cash settled, so the collection is fully paid.
The collection grew, so the donations were inevitable MABEU, MASC, Museum of Contemporary Art of Paraná, Pará State Museum, Museum of the Federal University of Para, Order DOAS Lawyers - Section Para Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes del Paraguay , Museo de Chile, Centro Dragão do Mar Art and Culture and several donations to individuals.
After twenty years at the same address Elf changed for the second time. Currently is installed on the house at 60 Passage Bologna, in a village of houses built in 1904 by engineer Francis Bologna, in a scenario reminiscent of the Belle Epoque to Bethlehem.
The new management of the gallery, represented by women and children of Gileno Müller Chaves - in his memory - understands the need to change to achieve vitality, but adopts the same policy of encouraging the acquisition and visual arts implemented in 1981 by its creator, and takes possession of the legacy received by printing the mark of a new era, where the past to the present brings a history of dedication and commitment that is embodied in the courage of wanting to be better every day.
